Salient Features of an Islamic Marriage
For any young Muslim female finding the perfect match is not an easy task as there are many stipulations involved when looking for a life partner. Islam dictates that females can only marry Muslims as marrying non Muslim results in cultural and religious dissent.
Since the children usually follow the religion of the father, it is extremely important that the women marry someone who has entered the circle of Islam. For any young Muslim female, there are many barriers which she cannot cross if she abides by the cultural and religious norms. The most significant barrier is the prohibition of men and women meeting freely and interacting with each other unless they are related to each other. For many this means that they can only marry their cousins who are of suitable age. In some cases, parents arrange for a Muslim match for the daughters from within the circle of close family friends. While the arranged marriages work out in some cases, it is a huge risk which most single Muslim women are hesitant to take.
Islamic marriages are sacred as the nikkah ceremony is considered as a pact signed with Allah as a witness. Something like this cannot be taken lightly and Muslim men and women make sure that they are making the right decision before entering the nikkah. Islam permits the right to get a divorce but it is an action that is highly disliked by Allah so many Muslim women try to make their marriages work even if they have abusive husbands. However if such scenario arises, Allah has given the woman the right to ask for a khula (divorce initiated by the woman) so that she can live peacefully. Muslim matchmaking is a complex process which involves a lot of deliberation and thinking on part of both the bride and groom before the match is made. alnoorlaw.pk/service/k…
